About the Owner Matthew Stohlman

Matt was born and raised in Montgomery County and is very happy to carry on the family business.

The Watch Pocket was established by John F. Stohlman Sr., in March of 1970, Matthew’s father, and located at the front of the Woodmoor Shopping Center in the “Four Corners” area of Silver Spring. The original site was a small, only 119 square foot storefront that is now part of the Chipotle restaurant.

John graduated from St. Peter’s Horology School of Watchmaking in Washington, D.C. in the mid-1950’s. Matt began working with his father in 1981. He learned everything about clocks and watches, goldsmithing, and jewelry design, while working under his father.

He loves working in the family business and credits his father for all that he learned, about business and life. In 1992, Matt’s Dad moved to Southern Maryland and opened a second jewelry store, so Matt ran the Silver Spring location independently, in consultation with his father. In 1999, Matt moved to the back of the Woodmoor Shopping Center, where it is currently located.

Matt specializes in watches and clocks and “works on anything that goes tick-tock!”
